Lepers were forced to shout "Unclean!" and sleep outside city walls. This man probably hadn't felt the warmth of a handshake or a hug in ten years. People threw stones to keep him away.
Jesus could have snapped His fingers from twenty feet away. Instead, He reached out His hand and touched him first. He healed his agonizing loneliness before He even cured the skin. That is who God is.
Tears at a Friend's Grave
When Jesus arrived at the tomb of His friend Lazarus, Lazarus’s sister Mary collapsed in front of Him weeping. Jesus knew that within five minutes He was going to raise Lazarus back to life.
He didn't say, "Stop crying, have more faith." The Bible simply records: "Jesus wept." He stood in the graveyard and let tears stream down His cheeks because our grief breaks His heart too.
Rest for People With Heavy Packs
Most religious systems pile rules upon rules: do more, try harder, feel guiltier. People back then were crushed under religious expectations and economic stress.
Jesus didn't give them a to-do list. He said: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest... for I am gentle and lowly in heart." He is gentle with tired souls.
Warm Fish & Bread on the Shore
Peter had publicly cursed and denied that he even knew Jesus on the night He was arrested. Peter was drowning in sickening shame and went back to his old fishing boat.
The resurrected Jesus didn't scold him. He built a warm charcoal fire on the beach, cooked breakfast for Peter, looked him in the eyes, and said: "Peter, do you love me? Feed my sheep." He restored him completely.
